One line deer drawing
Fine line · Black and grey · Flash
A single unbroken black line forms a stylised standing deer in profile, with the head raised and antlers curling at the top. The linework is uniform and thin, with no shading, and the lines loop where the neck, legs and body meet. The plain white background and the small spaced caption reading ONE LINE DEER sit above the figure, giving a clean, centred composition.

The frost had not left the hollow by the time Maud Tennant walked out to the edge of Wrenfield with the lamp and the bread. Her brother had sworn he saw a stag come down through the beech wood the night before, one unbroken track through the snow that never lifted its feet from the ground, and nobody in the village believed him until the tracks were found behind the mill.

She followed the marks past the last cottage and into the trees. They did not look like the marks of a beast that had been running. They looked like the marks of a beast that had been walking slowly and thinking about each step, the way a person writes a letter they do not want to finish. Where the path bent around the old oak, the line of prints doubled back on itself, looped twice, and went on as if nothing had happened.
At the clearing she stopped. The stag stood with its head raised, antlers curling up and round like the opening of a fern, and it did not run when it saw the lamp. It only turned its neck, and the long line of its back bent after it, as though someone had drawn the whole animal in one pass and forgotten to lift the pen.
Maud set the bread down on the stump. "Go on, then," she said. "Tell the mill it was you."
The stag looked at her a while, then stepped back into the trees, and the frost on the path ran smooth behind it where its feet had been.
