Peace will win quote lettering on skin
Lettering · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
The right panel shows two lines of black serif lettering in a typewriter-style font reading Peace will win and Fear will lose, with clean, even linework and solid black ink. The left panel shows a person in a dark top and a green stone pendant, with a small tattoo on the upper arm. The image is a side-by-side collage in muted, warm tones.

Mrs Hollis had typed eleven hundred envelopes since Monday, and the Imperial had never once stuck on the letter e, until this morning. She sat with a hairpin under the carriage, swearing at it under her breath, while Denny from the press office leaned in the doorway with a proof in his hand. "Needs to be sharp," he said. She fed a card in and struck the keys one at a time, the way her mother had taught her on a Remington in Stroud. Peace will win. A gap, then Fear will lose. The letters came up black and even, every serif biting the card to the same depth, and when she lifted it free the words looked far more certain than anyone in the building felt that spring.
Denny held it to the window and read it twice. Then he tapped the bottom line with his thumb. "You've fixed the e," he said, surprised. "How?"
"Hairpin," she said. She did not mention the first card, the one she had spoiled on purpose, with Fear will lose struck over and over until the letters filled up with ink. She had folded that one into her handbag before he came in. It was still there, under her ration book, and every so often she took it out to check that the words had not faded.
