Peeled banana in a top hat on a thigh
Traditional · Thigh · Mixed · Photo
A cartoon banana with a moustache, monocle and black top hat sits in the centre of the design, with its skin peeled back to show the fruit. The phrase I find this attire appealing is written in black script curving above and below the figure. Bold black outlines and yellow, tan and grey shading sit alongside touches of red on the hat band and blue in the monocle, on smooth skin.

Every Sunday the banana went down the lane to the vicarage garden in his black top hat, with the monocle screwed in tight and his moustache waxed to two points. The other fruit thought him vain. The pears said so openly, and the plums said so behind their hands, but the banana only tipped his hat and wished good morning to the gardener's marrow.

His trouble was the greengrocer's daughter, a quince named Mary-Jane who had come up from the orchard in the spring and never once looked at him twice. She had her eyes on the pumpkin from Mr Hallam's allotment, who was round, orange and boastful, and who rolled into the garden party each August as though he owned the lawn.
So the banana sat up one night beside the water butt and thought it through. A gentleman, he decided, does not simply arrive. He must be unwrapped slowly, in front of everyone, with the good light on him. At the party he waited until the vicar cleared his throat, then stepped onto the trestle table, took hold of his own skin at the top, and folded it back one yellow strip at a time until there was nothing left to hide.
The quince went pale and then pink. The pumpkin rolled off the table in a sulk. Mary-Jane laughed so hard she dropped her teacup, and that was that. They were married by the sundial before the first frost, and the vicar, who had seen many things in his garden, said it was the most appealing wedding he had ever officiated.
