Peter Pan quote with flying silhouette on foot
Lettering · Other · Mixed · Photo
A black script quote reads To live would be an awfully big adventure across the top of a foot, with a black silhouette of a flying figure at the right. Soft pink, green and purple swirls and small black star shapes trail behind the lettering. The black lettering and silhouette are crisp, while the coloured areas fade softly into the skin against a plaid blanket.

Tobin was seven and had stopped crying somewhere around the fourth deck. He gripped a paper map drawn in crayon: a star-shaped island, a lagoon of swirling blue, and a cross in the middle where the pressure doors should be. 'Dad said you can always fly out of trouble,' he said, 'if you think happy thoughts.'
Mara thought of cable coils and the hiss of the valve that had sealed them in, not happy thoughts. But the story had been their father's, told every night before his shift, and it came back to her in his teasing voice: to live would be an awfully big adventure. He always said it like a joke he had agreed to keep just for them.
The emergency beacon was the first light they had seen in an hour, a pale green thread near the floor. Tobin ran for it with his arms out, and Mara watched his shadow leap ahead of him across the bulkhead, legs kicked back, a small dark figure soaring over the rust-freckled wall. She followed it. Behind them the corridor went black, but the shadow kept its shape all the way to the seal, and when the door sighed open she was already laughing.
