Blue-purple pineapple tattoo in a detailed botanical style on the inner forearm, with a patterned skirt and top visible at the side.

Pineapple tattoo on a forearm

Botanical · Forearm · Colour · Photo

A detailed pineapple with a crown of spiky leaves is tattooed on the forearm of a person wearing a patterned outfit. The fruit is drawn with fine outline work and soft shading across the segments and leaves. The tattoo is in a single blue-purple ink against light skin, and it sits in the lower part of the frame with the blurred street behind.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Sit down, the lot of you, and stop tapping your feet, because the band has had its tea and it will wait. This is about the pineapple on Nell Harrow's gatepost. Every sailor who came up from the docks in Bristol knew that fruit. It was carved in the stone, and when the lamp was lit on the step you could see its crown of spikes from the end of the road. A pineapple meant a bed and a bowl of something hot, no questions asked, and a bed was worth more to a man off a ship than gold.

Now Nell had a dress that year the colour of an indigo dye pot, and she wore it to the Palais every Saturday, dancing with whoever stood nearest the door. One night a young mate named Tobias Crewe stood there with his cap in both hands, too shy to ask. She said nothing. She only held out her hand and led him onto the boards, and the band struck up a waltz that had no business being played so slow.

They danced until the lights went blue with the smoke, and when the hall emptied she walked him home past the stone fruit. He never went back to sea after that. Some say the pineapple was only for sailors, but I say it was for anyone who came up the road in the dark and needed letting in. So raise your glasses, and mind the step on your way out.
