Pink daisies and script on neck

Botanical · Neck · Mixed · Photo

Two pink daisy-style flowers with yellow centres sit on the side of the neck and upper shoulder, one larger and one smaller, overlapping. The petals are soft and shaded with lighter and darker pink tones, giving a gentle, dimensional look, and dark grey script lettering sits above them. The skin is shown against a plain, softly lit light background.

Dear Nell,

The gerberas came up pink again this year, the big ones and the little ones that never quite manage to be as tall as their sisters. I cut the first of them on Tuesday and carried them down the lane in the bucket you used to rattle, and Mrs Hebden said they looked like sunrise had been left out in the rain. I told her she should hear the dog's opinion, but he only wanted the bread crusts.

The glasshouse glass needs washing before the frost, and Dad's ladder is still lying where he left it in March. I have not moved it. Some mornings I stand at the end of the path and look at the beech wood where the track bends out of sight, and I think about how you used to run into it without looking back, the way you ran into everything.

Athena came for her wedding order on Friday. She wanted the pale pink, not the dark, and asked me to mind the stems so the petals would not bruise. I said I had been minding stems since before she was born. She laughed and said that was exactly why she trusted me with it.

I have kept the two best heads pressed in the big book with the blue cover. When you come home at Christmas, you can take one back to London with you. Bring the good scissors, and don't let them rust on the windowsill this time.

Love, Mum
