Colour tattoo of a purple iris with orange markings and green leaves on the inside of an ankle, outlined in black.

Purple iris on an ankle

Neo-trad · Ankle · Colour · Photo

A purple iris bloom with orange and cream markings on its petals sits above two green leaves. Bold black outlines define the ruffled petals, while soft shading gives the purple tones depth. The motif is centred on a pale skin background, with a dark leather surface visible at the edges of the frame.

I have pressed one for you between the pages of Dad's almanac, the one with the cracked spine. Don't let Auntie see it or she'll say I've gone soft. The Mercy Jane took a bump at Watford but the paint held, and the stove draws properly now that I bank it at night rather than fight it in the morning. I ate two eggs yesterday and a whole tin of peaches, which is more than you'll credit.

You asked when I'm coming north. I don't know yet. Mr Pargeter has offered me the mooring below the lock house, and the rent is less than what I pay for the yard in Leeds, and there is a bench facing the water where a person could sit with a cup of tea and watch the green leaves lean over the sluice. I've said I'll think on it, and I am thinking on it. Write back and tell me whether you'd come down to see the flowers, or whether you'd rather I came up to see you.

Your sister, Ada
