Realistic portrait tattoo of a man with blood effect
Realism · Upper arm · Colour · Photo
A detailed portrait of a man with swept-back brown hair, wearing a dark pinstriped suit, white shirt and red tie, shown in three-quarter view. Soft blending and fine shading build the skin, hair and fabric, while a red, blood-like wash covers the left side of the face. The subject fills most of the frame against a dark background, with the limb's skin visible at the edges.

Sit yourselves down, and mind the brazier, for the cold in Caddan Vale comes up through the flagstones like a debt collector. You want the tale of Oswin Hale and the wedding coat? Then hush.

Oswin was the finest tailor in the kingdom of Merrowmere, which is to say he was the only tailor in Merrowmere who could cut a lapel without sighing. In the spring the Duke's second son was to marry the baker's daughter, a man came up from the river quarter and ordered a suit. Charcoal, he said, with a stripe so fine it would vanish in candlelight. A white shirt, and a tie the red of crushed pomegranate.
Oswin measured him twice. The man never once looked into the glass.
The coat was finished on the eve of the wedding. Oswin carried it up the hill himself, and on the stairs he trod on a cat, and the crock of madder dye he carried on his hip went over. The stuff ran down the left side of his face and into the collar of his own good shirt, and it would not wash. For a week he could not look in a mirror without a red stranger staring back.
When the man in the stripes came down to fetch his coat, he saw the dye on Oswin's cheek and laughed until he had to sit on the step. Then he paid in full, buttoned the charcoal jacket over his heart, and walked off into the rain. Oswin never learned his name, but he cut every lapel after that with a steadier hand.
