Remain in me script lettering design
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
The image shows the phrase remain in me written in a continuous black single-line script across three lines, with the first line running across the top and the other two set smaller and centred below. The strokes are even and thin with no shading, and the loops of the letters are joined by flowing connecting lines. The sage green paper background gives the black linework strong contrast in a simple, uncluttered composition.

The flour was still cold from the store when Nell Ashdown found the slip of paper under the proving cloth, pinned by a dented scoop. Three lines of looping pencil, pale with age: remain, in, me. She read it twice before the oven timer reminded her the first batch had forty seconds left.

Walter had run the bakehouse on Calder Street for thirty-one years before his hands gave out, and he wrote everything down: hydration ratios on the tiles, the names of the regulars on the back of the till roll. Nell assumed the slip was a note about the rye. She tried it that way, leaving the pale dough a little longer under the cloth, and the crumb came out tighter than anything she had managed since March.
Still, she could not stop turning it over. Walter's daughter had moved to Canada years ago and sent only a card at Christmas. On the Thursday after the funeral, Nell lifted the lid of the flour bin and found a second slip in the same pencil, folded small. It said only: put the lamp in the window, somebody always comes in before five. She understood then that the three lines were not about bread at all, and she did not know whether he had meant the shop, or her, or the lonely nights he had spent here before anyone thought to bring him tea.
At half four she lit the lamp, set the first tray in the oven, and pinned the slip above the proving racks where the light would catch it. Outside, a van idled at the kerb, and a man in a hi-vis jacket pushed open the door, stamping the cold off his boots. "Still warm?" he asked. Nell handed him the bag and said yes.
