Botanical · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows two open roses with small leaves and stems arranged in a loose cluster. The linework is fine and the petals and leaves are softly shaded in grey and black. The photo is taken close up with the wrist angled across the frame, and the mustard top sits in the background.

Each evening after that she walked the same stretch and watered the hole with a dipper from the barrel, carrying water three miles from the spring at Holm. Carters laughed at her. A drover named her the milepost girl. Nothing came up for nine weeks, and then a green spike, and then two buds that opened in the same week as if they had agreed it between them, pale and loose-petalled, with leaves rimmed as fine as pen strokes and stems that went down into the grey stones.
The wind came off the flats in October and took the roofs off half the barns in the county. Ada's roses held. When the wire-seller came through with his wagon of tins and fencing, he stopped to look at them and said he would have bet a shilling against it.
Ada held out her hand for the shilling, then told him to fetch the spoon from the cart, because the next bush was not going to plant itself.
