Script lettering heart on upper arm
Lettering · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
A single-line black outline of a heart sits on the inner upper arm, with the lower edge of the heart continuing into flowing script lettering. The linework is bold and even in the heart and finer in the lettering, with no shading or fill. The photograph is greyscale and centred on the arm against a plain, softly lit background.

Dear Frank,

The Starlight Rooms has changed its carpet again, and Mrs Pardoe has finally stopped pretending the ceiling leak is someone else's fault. I am writing this on the back of a dance card because the stationery cupboard was locked after the Easter raffle. Toni Marsh took her shoes off at the interval and danced the foxtrot barefoot with the caretaker, and nobody has been able to get the story straight since.
You asked me who still dances the last waltz. It is the same few: Lorna with her cardigan buttoned to the chin, Ruth who counts out loud in a whisper, and the Kellerman twins, who take turns being the one who leads. The band plays "Harbour Lights" every Saturday now, because the bandleader's wife requested it the week you went and nobody has had the heart to change it.
I keep the names in the back of my diary, one under another, the way you used to write the next dance on the programme before the lights went down. When the hall shuts I stand under the chandelier and read them out, and the floor is still warm from the last of the feet. I wanted you to know the list is still getting longer.
Yours in the same old shoes, Dot
