Script quote along the collarbone
Lettering · Chest · Black and grey · Photo
A close photograph of a woman's upper chest and shoulder, with her face cropped out of frame apart from her smile. A line of cursive script in black ink follows the collarbone, reading I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. The shading is solid and even, and warm, soft sunlight fills the background.

The lamp in the front window is lit. I have left the back door on the latch the way you like, though the cat has already claimed the chair nearest the range and will not be moved for love nor money. I went down to the landing stage this afternoon to watch the Lady Margaret come in, and a boy I did not know asked me whether I was waiting for someone. I said yes. He asked who. I said my husband, who is the only man on the water who can find his way through fog without a lamp, and he looked at me as though I had told him a lie.
So here it is, the words you would rather hear than say. I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. You will say the first part is nonsense for a man who takes the ferry through murk you cannot see your own hand in, and I will say that is precisely why it was written down. Fold this into your inside pocket, under the pilot's card, where the rain cannot get at it. When the bell sounds on the bar, I will be counting the lamps on the Wirral side, and I will not stop until you come up the steps.
