Script quote on an inner forearm
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The photograph shows three lines of black script text tattooed across the inner forearm near the wrist, reading Give me your heart and your hand and we can run. The lettering uses a fine, even linework with a handwritten, joined-up script style and little or no shading. The ink is black on pale skin against a plain, softly blurred background, and the text is centred on the arm.

The mule went lame a day past Sallow Wells, so Ada Quill carried the saddle on her shoulder and let Teodor ride the bag of tins. He was eleven and had not said a whole sentence since the sheriff's men came to the schoolhouse. By noon the road had shrunk to two ruts and a line of fence posts, and she counted them out loud so he would have something to follow.

At the dance in Harrow Cross, a fiddler had played a slow tune that everybody knew without knowing the words. Ada had heard it through the open door of the wellhouse, where she was hiding the ledger. Give me your heart and your hand, the fiddler sang, and we can run. She had thought it foolish then. Now, with the canteen water gone warm and the heat lifting off the road in sheets, it seemed the only sensible advice anyone had given her.
Teodor stopped at the edge of the salt pan and held out his hand without looking at her. It was small and sticky with sugar from the tins. She took it. Ahead, the flats shone white to the edge of the world, and the wind had already begun smoothing out the tracks they had left in the crust.
They walked until the posts ran out. By morning there was nothing behind them but the road and nothing ahead but a long grey line where the mountains would be. Ada looked down once and saw that their boot prints had filled in, but the two shadows they threw at dusk still ran out in front of them, side by side, the way they had agreed to go.
