Script quote tattoo along the ribs

Lettering · Ribs · Black and grey · Photo

A fine black script quote is written in five lines across the side of the torso, reading from the upper left downward. The lettering uses smooth, thin linework with even spacing and a flowing hand-written style. The ink is black on pale skin, and the photo is taken straight on with a plain background.

Sit closer, the wind up here takes half of what I say and gives back nothing. You want the one about the fair at Carrow Gap? Then you'll hear it the way it reached me, through a man whose father had it from the carter who drove the actual cart.

Every autumn the wagons came over the pass with their striped awnings, and a thin fiddler from Lisk walked behind them without boots. Nobody in the valley danced with him. The people of Carrow Gap stood along the road with their arms folded, watching the bunting snap, and when the girl Marit Oss began turning in the middle of the square, skirts lifting, her feet quick as a heron's in shallow water, they laughed and said the cold up here had addled her. Her mother sent for the priest. He came with his bag of salt and sprinkled her in the mud, and still she turned.

The thing the valley never understood was that the fiddler wasn't playing. He stood by the well with his bow raised and his eyes shut, and his fingers didn't move at all. Marit could hear something. So could the bald old carter, who had been stubborn for forty years and who, that autumn, took off his hat and began to stamp.

By the next market half the square was dancing, and the other half was at the windows writing letters to the magistrate. Who was the fool then? Ask yourself that on the way down the pass, when the wind is behind you and you can't tell which way the music is coming from.
