Black fine line script tattoo reading Give me strength when I'm standing and faith when I fall, across the back below the shoulder blade.

Script quote tattoo on the back

Fine line · Back · Black and grey · Photo

A black script quote runs diagonally across the skin in four lines, with the words written in a single flowing handwritten style. The linework is thin and even, with solid black ink and no shading, and the warm skin tone contrasts clearly with the ink. A pink top strap sits along the left edge of the frame, and the tattoo fills the centre of the composition.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Kit, I've read the reunion invitation nine times and I still can't decide whether to go. Mrs Pryce has printed our old form room on the back, the one with the wonky radiator, and underneath she's written 'Bring a story!' as if we all have one worth telling.

I'm not going to pretend I've got a clean one. On Tuesday I sat at the kitchen table with Dad's old hymn book open at the bookmark and copied a line out in pencil on the back of a bus timetable, because his handwriting slopes the same way mine does and I wanted to see if it fit. Give me strength when I'm standing, and faith when I fall. He wrote it on the calendar every January, the year the pit closed, and never once told us why.

You'll say I'm going soft. Maybe. But I stood in the post office queue this morning for an hour with the forms and the school letters, and the woman behind me kept sighing at the clock, and all I could think was that I was still standing, which is more than I thought I'd manage in March.

So tell Mrs Pryce I'm sorry. Tell her I'll send the calendar instead. Pin it to the wall of the old form room if they let you, and leave the radiator as it is. Your sister, Ruth.
