Ship and lighthouse on both forearms
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A sailing ship with billowing sails sits on the left forearm, and a lighthouse stands on rocky ground beside waves on the right forearm. Both designs use fine shading and soft grey clouds behind them, with strong contrast in the sails and tower. The pair is photographed head on with the palms facing up, and the black ink dominates the composition.

Tamsin had kept the lamp at Scarrow Head for eleven winters, and in all that time the sea had given her nothing but weed, splintered crates and the occasional drowned gull. So when a grey shape came out of the murk south of the skerries, she assumed it was another wreck drifting home. It had its sails furled tight, though, and its hull sat high and clean, as if someone still bothered to paint it.

She climbed the iron stair with her lungs burning and wiped the salt from the lens with her sleeve. The ship was closer now, near enough that she could read the name on its stern in the last of the light: Constance Mirrow. Her grandmother had sailed on that line before the flood tides swallowed the harbour towns, and she used to tell stories about keepers who lit their lamps for every hull that passed, whether or not it wanted them.
Tamsin turned the lamp up until the rock glowed amber. Nobody answered at first. Then a single lantern swung on the foredeck, slow and deliberate, three short pulls and a long one. It was the old signal for 'we see you, we are going home', and nobody had used it in forty years. Her hands shook on the brass wheel. She had not been certain, until that moment, that anyone out there still kept the old code.
She went down to the desk and wrote in the log in her neatest hand: Vessel sighted, 17:40, answering. Then, because the ledger had always asked for it, she added the wind direction, and after a long moment, the word home.
