Small airplane tattoo on a forearm
Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A small, solid black silhouette of an airplane sits on the inner forearm near the wrist. The photograph is in black and white and shows a window and cabin interior behind the arm, with a knitted sleeve at the bottom left and a metal bracelet or watch on the wrist. The tattoo is the clear focal point, set against plain skin with a simple, minimal composition.

"Where's that one going?" he asked.
"Lisbon," she said, because it was always Lisbon when she didn't know. Their mum had worked the check-in desk at Gatwick for nineteen years and came home smelling of cold air and other people's suitcases. Since the redundancy she spent mornings at the library printing CVs and afternoons at this window, Nasreen suspected, watching for the same planes.
Dev had found a biro in the junk drawer. He was drawing on the inside of his wrist, a small aeroplane with wings too long for its body, pressing so hard the ink bled into the lines. "It's so you can find us," he said, "when you're on one."
She took the pen off him and drew a second plane beside his, smaller, heading the other way. They watched the real one until its lights thinned into the dark over the river, and neither of them mentioned that the ink would wash off by bedtime.
