Small crescent moon and line tattoos on bare feet
Fine line · Ankle · Black and grey · Photo
Bare feet rest on a rustic wooden table in a sunlit room, with a hammock chair, pancakes, coffee and a teapot in the background. The tattoos are small, black, fine line designs, one a crescent moon and the other a simple linework motif near the ankle. The image is warm and mostly neutral in colour, with the subject filling the lower left of the frame.

The kettle had been on the hob since the third bell and Marguerite still had not decided whether the moon in her mother's ledger was waxing or going. Each day had a small crescent pencilled beside the date, and a hairline stroke beneath it whenever the rain had come down the lane sideways.

Teodor came to mend the flue in the wet week of April and stayed for breakfast because the bread had gone to the birds. He left his boots by the range and sat at the scrubbed table, eating the pancakes she had made from the last of the flour, slicing apricots over the top with his penknife. He looked at the ledger for a long time without asking what it was.
"You've been drawing them the wrong way round," he said at last, tapping the page with the knife handle. "The horn points where the light comes from. Your mother faced hers at the window, so you'll always get them backwards unless you sit where she sat." Marguerite looked at the east window, at the bare branch knocking the glass and the sun coming in low over the hayfield, and she understood that the whole ledger had been a kind of argument with a room.
She poured his tea into the spotted cup and set it on the sill, where the morning could reach it first. Then she drew the crescent again, carefully, horns to the sunrise, and left the rain line blank.
