Small diamond tattoo on lower back
Fine line · Back · Black and grey · Photo
A woman with her hair in a loose updo faces away from the camera, wearing a black lace top with a scalloped back and a row of small buttons. A small black outline of a diamond or gem sits on the lower left of her back, partly visible below the lace. The shot is soft and natural, with the tattoo appearing as fine, thin linework against the skin.

Old Harker kept the light at Skerrow Point for thirty-one years and never cleaned the lens without first wrapping his hands in a clean shirt. The glass was cut in rings and prisms, he said, and every facet held a little diamond of sky that the sea could not reach. When the gales came he sat in the lantern room with his back to the lamp, listening to the bell buoy out past the Carrack rocks.

His daughter Ailsa carried up the tea every evening in a tin can with a wire handle. She was nine the winter the fog came in and stayed nine days. On the seventh night the buoy stopped ringing, and Harker, who was sure the sea had taken someone, went down the iron stair with a rope over his shoulder. Ailsa followed with the can still in her hand. At the foot of the rocks a grey boat was drifting under the lantern, its oars shipped, and a man lay in the bottom of it with his hand pressed to his coat.
Harker hauled him up on the rope. When they laid him by the stove, the man opened his fist and showed them a shard of cut glass no longer than a thumbnail, sharp at one edge and clear as ice. He said he had found it on the shingle at the bay, and that it had called to him through the fog like a lamp of its own. Harker turned it over under the stove light for a long time and said nothing at all.
The next night the keeper climbed back up with the shard in his waistcoat pocket and fitted it into the broken ring of the lens, where a gap had gaped since the storm of his first year. Ailsa watched from the stair as the beam swept out over the water and came back split into a hundred small points of light, each one a diamond, each one finding its way home through the fog.
