Small pineapple tattoo on a thigh
Fine line · Thigh · Black and grey · Photo
A small, simple pineapple is drawn in black ink on the outer thigh, with the crown at the top and the body in short hatched strokes. The linework is thin and even, and the tattoo is shown in soft natural light against white bedding. The frame is cropped tightly to the thigh and hip, with white lace underwear visible beside the tattoo.

Mr Ashdown had given the pineapple pit its own boiler, and in the winter of 1769 it was Tobias Rook who had to feed it. He did not tell the steward about the third. It had split along one side in the night, and the sweet rot of it had made the cat sneeze. Rook cut it free anyway, wrapped the good half in a napkin, and carried it down the back stairs to the kitchen, where a girl named Hester Pyle was scrubbing copper pans and humming a hymn that had nothing to do with fruit.
She took the napkin without looking at him. "You'll want it sweetened," she said, "or he'll know." Together they cut the flesh into rings, dusted it with sugar from the loaf, and set it under a bell jar on the sideboard, where the morning sun would find it by eight.
At dinner the steward praised the fruit to the company and never once looked toward the back door. Rook stood there anyway with the crown in his hands, the green spikes stiff as a brush. That evening he pressed it into the warm bark at the edge of the pit, and by spring there would be a new plant rising from it, and no one at the table would ever know whose hands had made it.
