Sonic and Triforce colour sleeve on forearm
Forearm · Colour · Photo
A full colour sleeve covers the forearm, showing a cartoon hedgehog in blue with a yellow-skinned face and red shoes, running across green hills. Red and white spotted mushrooms and gold rings float in a bright blue sky with white clouds and sparkles, and a black and blue Triforce sits near the wrist. The linework is bold and outlined, with smooth shading and saturated colour across the whole piece, and the wearer is shown in a blurred office setting in a green t-shirt.

Pell had been told the hills were a shortcut, which was the first lie of the morning. The second came from the mushroom seller at the crossroads, who swore the red-spotted ones grew only where the sky was thinnest, and that a sackful would buy a wagon. Pell bought three anyway, tucked them into a satchel that already smelled of wet rope, and ran.

The hills rolled green and steep, and every crest had a ring of gold lying in the grass as if someone had dropped a bangle and never come back for it. Pell gathered them as they went. By noon the gold made a bright, clinking weight against one hip, enough to pay a ferryman twice over. Above the ridge the sky was all white clouds and glitter, and a triangle of three old shards hung in it, humming like a struck glass. The signpost at the last village had promised that whoever held all three could ask the hills for one thing.
The shards were waiting on a checkered path at the valley floor, each one warm as fresh bread. Pell reached for the nearest, and the hill spoke up, cheerful and unimpressed. You already have the speed you need, it said. The price is the gold you have spent, and the mushrooms you have eaten, and the ferryman you were going to pay.
Pell thought about the wagon, and the satchel going soft, and the ferryman who would certainly have forgotten the fare. Then Pell laughed, left the shards humming in their triangle, and ran on across the hills with empty pockets, the sun chasing a blue shadow down the green slope.
