Link and Zelda forearm piece with triforce
Neo-trad · Forearm · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows Link in a chibi style holding a shield and sword in front of Zelda, whose blonde hair and profile are visible behind him. A golden triforce sits at the top, with green ivy leaves and a red and blue geometric circle framing the figures, and ornate scrollwork fills the lower forearm. Bold outlines and flat, saturated colour fills give it a stained-glass look, shown against a teal wall and green fabric.

The last pane is the one that lets the rain in, so you work on it with the chapel dark around you and only your torch to read the leading. The knight is smaller than you expected, a stubby figure with a round shield raised against nothing, as if whoever made the window had been told the enemy would be short. Behind him a woman leans into the frame, her hair drawn in one thick stroke of yellow glass, and a vine of ivy climbs out of the lower corner as if the building had been growing around them for a century.

The vicar left you a key, a flask of tea gone lukewarm, and a warning not to touch the gold panel at the top. It is the only one signed by the old glazier, a small triangle of three shapes in the corner that the damp has nearly eaten. Outside, the number 14 bus grinds past the railings every twelve minutes, and each time its headlights sweep the nave, the knight's sword flares blue and then goes dark again. You have been told this window is worth more than the roof. You have also been told the roof is leaking onto it.
When the loose lead finally gives, a sliver of glass drops into your palm. It is gold, and it has been cut into a slim triangle that fits nowhere in the design you can see. You turn it against the torch until the three shapes line up in the light, and across the road a flat above the chemist's lights up, green, with a row of plants pressed to the glass. You solder the last joint, wipe your fingers on your jeans, and leave the gold panel exactly as it was.
