Star Wars sleeve with roses on upper arm

Traditional · Upper arm · Mixed · Photo

A full sleeve on an upper arm shows Darth Vader, Boba Fett, a stormtrooper and R2-D2, with a large red rose at the base. The characters are shaded in greys and black, while Boba Fett and the rose use teal and red colour with bold outlines. The arm is shown in a close, angled photograph against a plain interior, with the wearer's lower face and a white and blue striped top visible.

Dear Tomasz,

The box of helmets arrived at the chapel the same week the roof came in, so you can imagine the state of the place. Your mother says you have been sulking since the removal men took the old gallery sign down, but I have a better job for you. The Imperial lot need painting before Saturday, and the rose on the Fett helmet has to be red as a pillar box, not the pink you did last time.

Grandad would have laughed at the state of the bench. Forty years of wax, resin and somebody's cold tea. He always said a helmet tells you who is inside it before you have seen a face. The stormtroopers were cheap plastic slapped together in a Hertfordshire unit, and he hated them for it. Vader he loved. He spent three evenings on the visor alone, rubbing black into the seams until the light sat in them the right way.

When the men come on Saturday, give Boba the teal. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. R2 goes at the back, where the little dome catches the window. I know you think it's a child's job, but nothing sits right until the blue stripes are straight.

I've left the key under the tin with the droid on it. Ring Ruth when you're done, and tell her the rose came up well.

Love, Nan
