Stormtrooper helmet and Millennium Falcon on thigh
Traditional · Other · Black and grey · Photo
A stormtrooper helmet sits at the centre of this thigh tattoo, with a Millennium Falcon tucked beneath it and framed by roses, leaves and small flowers. The design uses bold black outlines with no shading or fill, so the ink reads as a clean, flat line drawing. The composition is roughly circular, with the helmet at the top and the flowers spreading down towards the knee, and the skin tone shows through the white areas.

The snow had shut the pass for nine days when the white-armoured man came down the track on foot, dragging a bent grey ship behind him on a rope of frozen harness. Mother Ansel at the inn said nothing about the ship. She said the stable had room for it if he kept the door shut against the wind, and she counted out the bowls for his supper with her lips pressed tight.

He did not take his helmet off at table. Mirren, who was eleven and had read every book in the house twice, sat across from him and watched the single black lens catch the lamp. He ate the mutton stew through the mouth-slot in small careful spoonfuls. When she asked where he had come from he said a place where the sun did not set on anybody who could be made to kneel, and then he asked her for a candle and a pair of gloves she was not using.
In the stable the ship's hull ticked as it cooled. Mirren brought the candle at dawn and found him out in the yard, helmet under one arm, digging with a shovel at the drift piled against the glasshouse wall. Inside the old glass, where her grandmother had once forced roses through the winter, the stems had gone brown, all except one. A single bud, pale and stubborn, had pushed up through the leaf litter and split its sheath in the warm air the stove still breathed out.
He held the bud out to her without a word. She took it, and he hung the helmet on the peg by the door where the travellers' coats went, and he walked back to the ship. When the pass opened in March the inn was quiet and the falcon was gone from the stable. The helmet still hung on the peg, and someone had pushed a rose stem into the empty slot where the breath should come out.
