Sun, crescent moon and stars on the wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A small tattoo shows a sun with a circle and radiating rays above a crescent moon. Three small star shapes hang from dotted lines beneath the sun and moon, forming a vertical arrangement. The linework is thin and uniform in black ink, with no shading, and the design sits centrally on a pale, softly blurred background.

Brother Osric had kept the lamps of Saint Wenna's for thirty winters, and in all that time he had never once let the sky go out. When the frost cracked the old wooden moon above the orchard gate, the abbot sent him up the bell-tower stair with a pot of lamp oil and a coil of tin wire, and told him to make do.

He made do. He beat a broken pan into a crescent, bent three stars from spoons nobody used, and strung them beneath a brass sun he had polished until it hurt to look at. The villagers climbed the hill to see it hang over the apple trees. A child asked whether the moon was hungry, since it was so thin. Osric said it had only been eating less, as the moon does when it wants to be remembered.
Then the abbot died, and the new prior, a man who counted candles, ordered the wire taken down for the bell rope. Osric climbed up one last time at dusk. He found the stars had already worked loose and lay in the nettles, dull and useless. He pocketed all three and came down without a word.
Next morning the orchard was grey with mist. The prior went out to look and found the three stars pinned to the gate-post with a single thread of wire, each one turned to face the east, where the sun would come. Nobody ever learned who had put them there. Osric swore he had been asleep, and the prior did not contradict him.
