Sword and handheld console banner design
Traditional · Colour · Flash
A cartoon handheld console with a smiling screen and small limbs sits on a sword blade, with a cream banner above reading Who wants to play and another below reading Videogames. The linework is bold and dark, with flat fills in teal, cream, blue, yellow and red and simple highlights. The design is centred on a plain pale green background, with the sword running vertically through the middle.

Dear Wenna,

You will not believe what Sir Aldric pulled from the bog below Harrowgate Mill. Everyone expected a blade of legend, and I suppose it is one, if legends can be lumpen and grey. The grip is wrapped in blue cord and crowned with a red jewel the size of a plum, and the blade runs down into a little green box with a face on it. The box has a smile. It has arms. Sir Aldric swears it spoke to him in the mud, and when I asked what it said he went quite pink and would only admit it asked, 'Who wants to play?'
The villagers think it a curse. Father Osric wants it melted down for the church bell. But the box, which Sir Aldric has named Pip for reasons he will not explain, has been very reasonable about everything. It wins at dice. It knows the way to the dragon's cave because its little screen glows with a map. Yesterday it beat the miller's boy at pebbles, and the boy wept with delight and asked to be beaten again.
Last night I found the box alone in the armoury, its screen blinking softly among the rusted helms. I sat on the cold flagstones and asked what it wanted. It told me, in its small cheerful way, that it had waited four hundred years in the mud for someone who was not afraid of losing.
So I pressed the red button. I am writing this by the light of its screen, which is warm and rather flattering to my nose. The dragon expects us on Thursday. Do not tell Mother.
