Symbols and the number 69 on forearm
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows two astrological-style glyphs and the numerals 69 arranged in a diagonal line along the forearm. The lines are solid black with smooth, bold strokes and no visible shading. The skin tone is warm and the background is dark, so the ink stands out clearly.

Dear Tom,

The rain has got into the almanacs again, so the Virgo one has gone soft at the corners and I have stopped trying to dry it on the radiator. You would laugh. Stall sixty-nine is still the wet corner by the fishmongers, and Mrs Okafor still swears the lamp above it is the reason her hyacinths won't flower. I told her the lamp is innocent. The gutter over the awning is the culprit, and I have a bucket under it that Dad would have called a sensible investment.
Something came in on Thursday you'd have liked. A girl, nineteen maybe, carrying a shoebox of old star charts her gran had kept in a biscuit tin. She wanted to know whether the Gemini pages were printed in 1962 or 1963, because the two paper twins on the cover did not match. I found the pair of them stapled back to back, one with its pillars straight and one leaning, the way a drawing does when someone has traced it in a hurry. She paid me four pounds and asked me to keep the tin.
I have kept it. It sits on the shelf above the till, beside the brass scales and the jar of loose sixpences nobody will spend. When the rain stops, which it will, I might take the tin down to the canal and look at the reflections of the old signs, the ones that still hold a little light.
Hope the coast is kinder. Write when the post comes through.
Love, Eddie
