Today is a gift script on upper back
Lettering · Back · Black and grey · Photo
A person seen from behind, with dark hair pulled up and one hand resting on the back of their neck. The black cursive script reads Today is a gift and sits on the upper back, slightly below the neckline and above the spine. The lettering has thin, fluid strokes with some variation in weight, set against warm, softly blurred background tones.

The Mary Tallis went out of Porthgwidden at half four, her running lights bobbing past the breakwater while the gulls still slept on the slipway. We worked the grounds off the Runnel for six hours as the sky went from pewter to pale butter. Plaice came up silver and cold, gulls screamed over the gutting table, and Dad sang badly to the winch in a tune nobody else knew.
The forecast crackled on the set at noon, something about a southwesterly freshening by evening, and I expected him to swear and point us home. Instead he cut the engine, let the boat drift, and unfolded a tide table from his oilskin. On its back, in his mother's looping hand, were the same words he'd been saying all my life. He had carried that paper for forty years and never once told me she wrote them there.
"Thought it was just a tide table," he said, grinning at the water. "Took me this long to read it properly."
We ran for port with a full hold and the wind at our backs, and I kept the tide table in my pocket, the words facing the sky.
