Torso and arm sleeves with skulls and lotus flowers
Realism · Chest · Mixed · Photo
A mirror selfie shows a torso and both arms covered in tattoos, with the face cropped out of the frame. The stomach holds a sugar skull style face with red-rimmed eyes, halftone dotwork shading, pink lotus flowers and an eye, while the chest has a skull, red roses and a pocket watch. The left sleeve is in bold colour and the right sleeve is in black and grey with smoky shading.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Every night the lamps went out along the Sallow Quay, and every night Mother Ysolde climbed the stairs of the clock tower to wind the great bell, because her husband had wound it for forty years and never once said why. The people of Brackwater did not ask. They pulled their shutters and left a pocket watch on the sill for the bell-keeper, and in the morning the watch was always ticking more truly than before.

One November a boy called Tobiah Fenn, who sold pins from a tray on the bridge, took a watch from the sill to see whether the bell-keeper would notice. She noticed. She came down the stairs with her face painted white and her eyes ringed in red, the way the old women painted themselves for the Night of Lilies, and she held out her hand without a word. Tobiah gave it back. She opened the case, and where a face should have been there was a lotus cut in silver, and beneath it a single eye looking up at him.
"Time keeps the city," she said, "but somebody has to keep time." She pressed the watch into his palm and told him the bell would ring for him at midnight. It did. Nobody in Brackwater remembered that Tobiah had ever sold pins at all, though the lotus on the tower opened that night for the first time in forty years.
