Treble clef with Jesus lettering
Black and grey · Flash
A treble clef is drawn in bold black with dense hatched shading that gives it a textured, engraved look. The word Jesus runs up the right side of the lower curl in tall block letters, with a solid dot at the bottom left. The plain white background and centred composition suggest a stand-alone design rather than a tattoo on skin.

Dear Ivan,

The hall smelled of floor polish and the same cold radiator, and someone had strung the old choir banner across the stage, the one with the clef my mother stitched in 1979. I found it folded in the piano stool on Thursday. Nobody else seemed to remember who made it, so I'm telling you, since you were the one who insisted the clef needed a proper curl at the bottom.
Mr Fenwick would have hated the reunion crowd. Forty people hugging over sausage rolls, all of them swearing they never once fluffed the descant in Hark. The only one who sang properly was Priya Lowe, who has a grown son now, and she asked after you. I said you were still in Leeds, which is true, though I didn't mention you'd stopped playing.
The thing I keep turning over is the stitching. Whoever worked the banner shaded the clef in dense black thread, row on row, so it looks engraved from across the room. Near the bottom curl sits a solid dot, and up the side, in tall plain letters, is the name we sang louder than anything else at Christmas, leaning towards the edge as if it wanted out of the frame.
I'm enclosing a scrap of the thread. Come and see the banner before the caretaker bins it. Bring the tuning fork you borrowed in 1986 and never returned.
Love, Margaret
