Black tribal-style lettering design with curling swirls and tapering spikes, shown as a standalone flash design on a white background.

Tribal swirl lettering design

Lettering · Black and grey · Flash

The image shows a single stylised word-like form drawn in bold black tribal lines on a plain white background. The linework is solid and tapers to sharp points, with thick curves that flow into long thin strokes at the left and right ends. The design is entirely black with no shading or colour, and it sits centred in the frame with generous white space around it.

Sit closer, the wind up here likes to listen in. You want the pass, the one above Carrow Gap where the cloud sits on the shoulder like a dog. Nobody remembers who first cut the marks into the grey rock, only that the sheep-wives used to trace them with wet fingers before the long walk down.

There was a girl once, Teodora Vane, who came up with a bag of salt and a grudge against her brother. She reached the cairn at dusk and found the marks had run. Black lines had frozen into the stone, thick at their middles and thin as hair where they reached for the valley, and she swore they shifted whenever she didn't look straight at them. She sat down beneath the swoop of the first curve and waited for the wind to tell her which way was home.

It didn't tell her. It did something better. It pulled the long tail of the last stroke sideways until the whole word leaned like a man against a gale, and she saw, the way you see a face in a fire, that every hook and loop had been turned to point back toward the lower path. Someone had carved a way down for anyone willing to read it slowly.

She went down by morning, salt still in her bag and the grudge left behind on the pass. Her brother never did learn what she climbed up to say. Some things the mountain keeps, and the marks keep the rest. Mind your step on the scree.
