Triple Goddess symbols flash sheet
Blackwork · Black and grey · Flash
A flash sheet titled Symbols of the Triple Goddess, with a banner across the top and a grey engraved statue of three female figures at the centre. Around it are roughly a dozen black designs, including triskeles, triple moon crescents, pentacles, Celtic knotwork, a triquetra and a goddess figure, drawn in solid fills and fine linework. Most designs are black on white, with a few cream-coloured crescents, and the arrangement is symmetrical with the sheet framed by a grey cobweb border.

Mairead Oakes climbed the spiral stair of Skerrow light for the last time that October, counting the iron steps the way her mother had taught her, nineteen to a turn. Below her the tide was pulling its grey cloth back from the causeway, and somewhere in the village a dog was barking at nothing. Her sisters were already in the lamp room. Nell had the brass polished, and Ada was filling the oil can with the careful patience she brought to everything.

The keeper's log lay open on the table with the Board's letter resting on top of it. Three lines, a thank you for service, and a date. The light would be automated by the new year. Nell said nothing about it and only rubbed the lens with a cloth that had once been a christening gown. Ada wanted to repaint the crescent moons they had sketched on the door as girls, waxing, full and waning in a row, but the paint had run years ago and nobody had the heart to redo it.
At dusk they lit the lamp together, as they always had. Mairead turned the wick, Nell fixed the glass, and Ada read the tide table aloud in a voice that cracked on the high notes. The beam swept out over the water, found the drowned bell buoy, then the rocks, then a small white sail coming in late from the west. Someone aboard waved a torch in three quick flashes.
Mairead answered with three of her own. The sail altered course for the harbour mouth, and the sisters stood at the rail until the dark took it, the lamp turning above them like a slow moon that would not set.
