Fine line black tattoo on an ankle showing a UFO beaming up a figure between two cacti, with a shooting star, small stars and the words Earth Stinks below.

UFO abduction with cacti on an ankle

Fine line · Ankle · Black and grey · Photo

The tattoo shows a flying saucer above a tractor beam that lifts a small outlined figure, flanked by two cacti joined by thin horizon lines. A dashed shooting star and three small stars sit in the upper area, and the phrase EARTH STINKS is spaced in capitals beneath the scene. The work is done in thin black linework with no shading or colour, set against pale skin and a red shoe at the bottom of the frame.

Form 9, Sector Lacuna, the Mojave arm of the survey. Subject retrieved at 02:14 local time, one adult Earth male, standing between two saguaros on the old highway bypass. Retrieval was clean. The beam held him at the requested height and he did not thrash, which I am noting because Okonedo's log from last cycle records a biped who bit the emitter.

The cacti were Vell's idea. He argued they would break up the hull outline for the highway cameras, and they did, but they also made the landing site look like a postcard someone had given up on. There are nineteen petrol stations within eighty kilometres, each with a sign promising the same thing in a different font. I have counted them. The unit has never once been offered anything that could be called food.

Before the beam took him, the subject looked up at the hull, pointed at the stars and said, in a tone the translator rendered as settled grievance, that the ground down here stank of diesel and the sky did not care. Then he asked whether we could drop him at the bus station. Vell said no. I have decided that is a fair outcome for both parties.

Sample logged as requested: one left shoe, red canvas, laces undone. We have no use for it. I have placed it on the shelf above my bunk, where it is the only object on this vessel that does not hum. For the review board, I am amending the cover page under the official designation to read EARTH STINKS, which on reflection is an accurate field summary and one they will have to read before they reach the attachments.
