What a catch script on upper chest
Lettering · Chest · Black and grey · Photo
The photograph shows a black script tattoo of the words What a catch on pale skin, sitting across the upper chest between the collarbones. The letters have a flowing, slanted hand with thin, even linework and no shading. The soft, neutral lighting and close framing keep the focus on the lettering, with a fingertip and dark clothing at the top edge and a small mole below the text.

Mabel Corran had kept the bottom garden for forty years, and in all that time the pond had never given anything back. She dropped her wedding ring in it the spring her husband went to sea, and she stood at the edge with her sleeves rolled up while the frogs argued about it. Nobody came to help. The heron came instead, grey and stooped, and stood on one leg in the reeds as if it had been asked to wait.

She told it plainly what she wanted. The heron said nothing for a long while, then turned its head and stabbed the water, and came up with a silver perch, which it dropped at her feet. Mabel shook her head. The heron tried again, and again, bringing up a tin spoon, a pike with a broken jaw, a glove that was not her husband's, and at last a single gold band furred with green slime. She held it up to the light. The heron bowed, and went back to its reeds.
Then she laughed, which she had not done since March, and walked up the path with the ring on a string round her neck. She told the hens, "What a catch."
