White ink snowflake on an ankle
Fine line · Ankle · Black and grey · Photo
A symmetrical snowflake design is tattooed in white ink on the skin of an ankle or lower leg. The fine, delicate linework forms branching arms with small detailing along each point, and the pale ink shows against the skin tone. The dark, glossy surface beneath the leg contrasts with the light tattoo and fills the frame around it.

You will not believe the cold in the Spa ballroom this week. They have shut the windows since the frost got into the pipes, so we dance in our coats and the band plays with gloves on, Ray missing every third note. Mrs Haskell has hung paper snowflakes from the balcony rail, cut out of old music sheets. Nobody asked her to. She sits up there with a pair of nail scissors and her spectacles on the end of her nose, folding and snipping until the sheets come out like lace, and then she hands them down to whoever is nearest.
I took one home on Thursday. It is pressed in my Bible now, between Ruth and Naomi, and I keep taking it out to look at the points, six of them, every one different. She says no two are ever alike, which I thought was just the sort of thing grandmothers say until I saw her do it. She never folds the same way twice.
Then Stan from the florist's came up to me during the last waltz and asked if I would walk out to the pier with him once the hall closed. I said I would think about it. He said he would be waiting by the lamp, and I said the lamp had been out since Christmas, and he laughed so hard he trod on my hem. He has not come back to the hall since, so I suppose I am the one who has to go down and see whether the lamp is lit.
Love to Mum, and tell her I am eating properly.
