White rabbit and teacup forearm sleeve
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A detailed white rabbit in a jacket holds a pocket watch to its head, with a teacup and saucer and a drinking glass on a table beside it. The shading is smooth and realistic, with soft grey gradients and dark background areas behind the rabbit. Below, a small figure in silhouette stands among trees, and the design wraps down the forearm.

Old Tamsin Rowe kept the harbour clock at Porthcarrow, and it was the only clock in the village anyone trusted, because the hare who wound it never came down from the wall. He was grey at the ears and wore a dark coat buttoned to the throat, and he would sit on the stone with a silver watch held up to one eye, waiting for the tide to turn. When the boats went out he told the skippers the hour they had to be back, and not one of them had ever been late.

In the winter the herring went wrong. Eleven boats failed to come in the week after Candlemas, and the women gathered on the quay with their shawls pulled tight. Tamsin went down to the wall at dusk with a kettle and two cups, which her mother had always called foolishness. She set the cups on the flat stone beside the hare and poured. "They are late," she said. "You have told me every hour for forty years and you have never once been late yourself."
The hare did not look at her. He turned the watch over in his paw and frowned at its face. "The sea keeps its own time, Tamsin Rowe," he said. "I only count it." He tipped his head toward the water, where a single lantern was moving slowly along the dark line of the headland.
She stood and watched the lantern come round the point, and when she looked back the cups were empty and the hare was gone. The watch lay on the stone, still ticking, and its hands had stopped at the hour the last boat docked.
