3D puzzle pieces on the top of a foot
Realism · Other · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo shows two jigsaw puzzle pieces that appear to be cut out of the skin, with deep shadows along their edges to create a three-dimensional effect. The upper piece is shaded in flesh and grey tones, while the lower piece is filled with blue and turquoise scale-like patterns. The foot is photographed from above on a metal diamond-plate surface, with the tattoo placed centrally on the top of the foot.

Mind the drip off the awning, you, and sit closer, because the rain has got into my voice tonight and I need you to hear every word. Down at Cutter's Wharf market, where the gulls grow fat on sprats and the stalls smell of tar and oranges, there was a jigsaw seller called Wenna Bright. She sold her puzzles in plain brown boxes, each one with a single piece missing, and she never once told a customer which piece it was.

Her rule was simple. You bought the box, you took it home, and when you had finished the picture, the missing piece would turn up in your own pocket. Nobody believed her. Then a fishmonger named Davey Ruck bought a harbour scene, all blue water and a mermaid's tail half hidden in the waves, and he laid it out on his kitchen table through three wet winters. Each night he fitted another edge, and each night the last gap stayed empty.
On the fourth spring the rain came down so hard that the tarpaulins sagged like wet sails, and Davey found the piece under the heel of his own boot, cold and scaled with a pattern of blue. He carried it back to the stall in both hands. Wenna took one look, laughed until she coughed, and said the box had been waiting for a man who would not give up on it.
She never did tell him where the piece had come from. He fitted it into the one gap that mattered, pressed it flat with his thumb, and the rain stopped for exactly as long as it took him to look up.
