Black fine line tattoo of stacked arrows overlapped by two circles with dotted lines, on the inner forearm just above a fitness tracker.

Arrows and circles on a forearm

Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

A vertical stack of arrows runs up the inner forearm, with the lower arrow crossing two overlapping outline circles. Thin single-weight linework is combined with dotted lines and small solid fills on the arrowheads and feathering. The tattoo is in black ink only, shown against a dim, warm-toned background.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Master Corrin had measured the Hollow Fen for eleven winters, and he would not let the new girl touch the brass compass until she could draw a circle without lifting her wrist. Ilse tried for a week. Her circles wobbled, and her arrows, which she was meant to sight across the reed flats for the bridge-men, flew wide into the water.

On the eighth morning the fog lifted and she saw what he had been trying to show her. Two rings lay on the fen, one drawn by the old sluice wall and one by the chapel tower, and where they overlapped a single shaft of light fell through the gap like a dropped nail. Corrin had pinned a feather to his hat for this. He told her that every arrow in the kingdom was aimed at the place where two true circles meet, and that the Crown had forgotten why.

She loosed her arrow along the dotted line of the sightings. It hung in the air longer than arrows should, then dropped neatly into the mud at the exact centre of the lens, feathers still quivering.

Corrin said nothing. He only took out his ink pot and drew a small solid triangle in her ledger beside the figure, the way the surveyors had always marked a true reading. Then he handed her the compass, and she wound the brass arm around once more without lifting her wrist.
