Bachelorette party slogan with palm tree

Lettering · Forearm · Mixed · Photo

A wrist and inner forearm show a temporary tattoo with printed text reading I'm with Amber's bachelorette party, followed by a line asking for a drink if lost. A green palm tree and a brown coconut cocktail with a pink straw sit beside the text. The clean, flat printed design uses pink, black, green and brown, set against a softly blurred background of pink drinks and paper flowers.

The mist had swallowed the Col de Sarrat so completely that I could not see my own cairn from the doorway of the refuge, which is why I nearly walked into the hen party. Eight women came stumbling up the last switchback from the Spanish side, sashes flapping, one of them clutching a bent umbrella like a standard. Their leader, a broad Liverpudlian called Donna, marched straight up to me and held out her forearm as if I were a customs officer.

"I'm with Amber's bachelorette party," she said, reading it off her own skin in the lamplight. "If I'm lost, please buy me a drink."

The words were printed in pink capitals above a green palm and a brown coconut with a straw poking out of it. I told her the only useful thing I had: the nearest bar was in Benasque, two hours down the valley, and nobody sensible was on the pass in fog. Donna laughed the sort of laugh that had been practised over several days of drinking. "Amber's the sensible one," she said. "She's the one who's lost."

Amber, it turned out, had gone off to look for a sheep she had decided was a llama. We found her an hour later, sitting on a boulder beside a dry-stone wall with her hat tipped over one eye, perfectly content. I poured the lot of them tea from my flask, and Donna raised her paper cup to me. "Cheers, mountain man," she said. The fog thinned just enough to show the first lights of the valley, and somewhere below, a bar was still open.
