Three raised wrists with gold foil Team bride lettering tattoos on the forearms, against a sunlit beach.

Gold foil Team bride temporary tattoos on wrists

Lettering · Forearm · Colour · Photo

Three hands are raised against a bright sky and sand, each wrist carrying gold metallic foil lettering that reads Team bride. The script letters have a hand-lettered, brushed look with small flourished strokes above and below, and they appear to be temporary foil transfers rather than inked tattoos. The pink nails and warm, sun-lit background make the gold lettering stand out against the skin.

The transfers were meant to be a joke, the sort you order at midnight from a website with a cartoon flamingo in the corner. Gwen tore the packet open on the coach from Exeter and declared the gold would look like real jewellery in photographs. Nobody had warned us the backing paper smelled of hairspray.

We pressed them on at the harbour wall with a damp flannel, counting to thirty the way the leaflet said. Mine came away crinkled and stuck to my thumb, so I spent ten minutes trying to smooth it back into the shape of an R. Gwen's lettering lifted clean, brushed and slanting, with its little strokes fluttering above and below the word, and she was so pleased she started photographing it against the sky. Then Nell, the only one of us actually getting married on Saturday, asked where her set was.

It was in the bottom of the bag, under a bottle of factor fifty and a squashed packet of wine gums. We had been too busy arguing over who was the most team to notice. Nell laughed until she had to sit on the bollard, then held out her wrist and told Gwen to give her the best one, the one with the longest tail.

Gwen peeled her own foil off in one long gleaming strip and pressed it onto Nell's skin. It took three goes. By the time they had finished there were only crumbs of gold left on my thumb, and the spare sheet had blown off the wall and was skimming out past the breakwater, flashing once, twice, then gone under the slate-grey sea like a coin somebody had let slip.
