Bachelorette slogan with martini glasses on wrist
Lettering · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
A hand is shown palm up with a typewriter-style text design on the inner wrist. The wording is set in black and pink capitals, with the pink word emphasised, and sits above two pink martini glasses drawn in fine outline with pink fill. The plain pale background keeps the focus on the wrist and the crisp, even linework of the design.

Sit down, love, and mind the draught from the front door, it's been coming through that gap since 1961. You want the story of the hen party? Right. Nine of them came up the steps of the Gull's Rest on a Friday in June, shrieking like the gulls, with a sash across the bride-to-be's chest that said I'M WITH THE BRIDE'S PARTY, and underneath, in smaller letters, IF I'M LOST, PLEASE BUY ME A DRINK. I thought that was a fine sentiment for a seaside town, and I said so, and they all laughed like I'd told a joke.

By nine o'clock the sash was the only thing of Pauline I could find. She'd gone out along the front to look at the lights on the lifeboat house and not come back. Her friends were lined up on my bar stools, pink as Blackpool rock, wanting to ring the coastguard. I told them nobody in Saltcombe has ever been lost for longer than it takes the tide to turn.
So I took my torch and went down onto the shingle, and there she was, sat on an upturned crab pot, reading her own sash out loud to a spaniel that wasn't interested. 'I'm not lost,' she said. 'I'm just thorough.' I told her that was how the ones who got lost usually started. We walked back up the front together, and the whole hen party cheered like we'd come in off the lifeboat.
I poured two martinis from the bottle I keep for the coroner's Christmas. Hers I set on the bar, and the glass caught the light the colour of a bridesmaid's dress. She drank it in one go, then asked me for the bill. I told her it was already settled, the sea had taken care of it, and the sea always settles its debts.
