Batman above a city street on an arm
Realism · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows Batman crouched in a cape against a dark city skyline, with a bat symbol in the upper left. The shading is smooth and detailed, with strong contrast between deep blacks and soft greys. The composition runs down the arm, with the figure's cape and a stone-like ledge in the lower half.

Tobias Crane had the night beat for the Merrow Street ferry office and had seen the mark before: a black wing painted on the brickwork above the pawn shop, three feet across, the paint still tacky in the wet. Whoever made it had not bothered to hide. He stood under the lamp and looked up at the roofline, where the chimneys stacked against the sky like bad teeth, and at the far ledge where a figure in a long cloak crouched with one hand flat on the stone.
It did not move. Tobias had walked a beat for nineteen years and had learned that stillness was the only thing a rooftop never gave away.
Then the cloak lifted in a single soft fold, like a bird settling, and the ledge was empty. Tobias tried the pawn shop door and found the lock already open, a fresh scrape on the brass. Inside, on the counter, lay a pocket watch with its hands stopped at a quarter past two, and beside it a card in neat capitals: THE CITY KEEPS ITS OWN HOURS. He pocketed the watch and left the report blank.
