Biomechanical torn-skin forearm tattoo
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A forearm tattoo shows metal mechanical parts, including pistons, plates and rivets, exposed through a ripped skin effect. The shading is smooth and highly detailed, with strong highlights on the silver metal and deep shadows inside the mechanism. The tattoo fills most of the frame, with a red fire extinguisher and tiled floor blurred in the background.

The galley range on the collier Hesper had gone cold three days out of Blyth, and Cook Ada Penhallow would not light it until the engineer owned up. He stood in the doorway with his cap in both hands, grease to the elbows, and said the pump had seized because he had taken its heart out to fit the cutter's winch.

Ada had heard the old tale from her grandmother in Penzance: a smith who forged a kettle so true it boiled water by its own hunger, and who, when the copper finally split, found an engine beneath it, plates riveted over a warm red muscle. The smith hid it under his apron every day after. His wife said he never once stopped sweating, and never once let anyone near the stove.
So Ada took a lamp and went down to the bilge where the pump lay in its cradle. Its pistons were bright as cutlery, its rivets set in neat rows like buttons on a sailor's coat, and along the casing a skin of rust-red tin had been peeled back as if something inside had pushed to get out. She sat with it until the watch changed, then told the engineer to fetch the spanner and the bread knife.
They put the heart back together by the light of a single bulb. When the range caught, the kettle sang, and Ada poured the first tea without looking at either of them. The pump ran sweet all the way to Rotterdam. Nobody aboard ever asked what she had said to it, and she never told them it had asked for a name first.
