Black and grey bird and flower leg sleeve

Realism · Thigh · Black and grey · Photo

Two photographs show a full leg sleeve of birds with spread wings, including a hooked-beaked bird, alongside peonies, bird of paradise flowers and a small geometric element near the knee. The linework is fine and the shading is detailed, with dense feather textures and soft gradients. The tattoo is entirely black and grey and fills the leg from upper thigh to ankle.

Sit nearer, the fire won't last till morning and the snow has shut the pass until March, so you may as well hear an old man lie. Mind the hearth. The landlady, Mrs Hesketh, would not stand for it. She sent to Whitby for a grey-cheeked parrot from a sailor's widow, a bird with a beak like a folded knife, and set it on the eagle's perch to shame her. The parrot shamed nobody. It learned the eagle's whistle, then the cook's cough, then the sound of Mrs Hesketh's dead husband calling the dogs in, and it would not stop until someone answered.

So the two of them struck a bargain, the way creatures do when they are bored of being cold. Whoever brought back the first bird of paradise flower from the valley beyond the south wind would have the inn's last bed all winter. The eagle flew nine days and came back with nothing but frost in her feathers. The parrot did not fly at all. On the tenth morning Mrs Hesketh found it sitting on the sill, the ring held in its beak, and a single orange flower pinned to the wall beside it, petals stiff and bright against the glass.

The eagle never forgave the parrot. She still steals a spoon now and then, just to hear the bird scream the cook's cough back at her.
