Cat and skull hybrid drawing
Dotwork · Black and grey · Flash
A pen drawing of a cat's head fused with a skull, with the snarling mouth open to show fangs and the bony structure exposed on the left side. The fur is rendered with fine hatched strokes and whiskers, while the bone and teeth use stippled dots for texture. The image is entirely black and white and fills the frame with the head angled to the right.

The other half had gone to bone: a clean, pitted jaw, a hollow where an eye should be, and fangs that caught the evening light like wet pins.

Her husband, Arthur, had planted the bean row the spring before he died, and he had thought the cat a nuisance. Now she left a saucer of milk by the rhubarb and talked to it about slugs and the price of compost.
Last week it had brought her something: a small brown vole, laid neatly on the path with its tail curled like a question. She had thanked it the way one thanks a neighbour who has returned a ladder. Tonight it stood and stretched, bone jaw opening, and she understood it was waiting for her to go in.
She went in. When she came back out at dawn the saucer was empty and the frame was dry, and on the earth beside the beans lay a single tooth, long and yellow-white, pointing towards the house.
