Cat-shaped design with rose and eye
Traditional · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A bold cat-shaped figure outlined in black sits behind a red rose with pink petals and a small eye in its centre. A red bow sits on top of the head, and teal leaves frame the rose. Solid colour fills with black outlines and soft shading in the petals give it a flat, graphic look against the skin.

The night porter, Dennis, swears she knows when a patient is going to ring the bell. He says she sits by the door of the side room and stares at the corner until the bell goes. I told him that was a coincidence and he said I could write that down as well.
Thursday, 04:15. I found a drawing in the cupboard that Gladys's old owner must have left behind, a stiff card of a cat with a rose for a face and one painted eye in the middle of the petals, which is either very sweet or deeply unsettling depending on how many hours you have done. I pinned it above the sink. Nobody has taken it down.
Last night the side room bell rang at three and I was already halfway down the corridor before I had decided to go. Mr Adeyemi was sitting up asking for water and nothing else. When I came back, Gladys was on the sill opposite, eyes narrowed, as if she had been watching the whole floor and had decided I could take over now.
