Chevrolet script and bowtie logo on upper arm
Lettering · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo reads Chevrolet in a flowing script with soft grey shading that gives the letters depth. It sits over an outlined bowtie emblem, drawn with clean dark lines and lighter grey fill. The photo is taken close up across the upper arm, with the design filling most of the frame against a dark background.

The truck had been dead for three hours when the dust came off the Mojave and swallowed the road in brown light. He had polished that badge every Sunday of her childhood, rubbing the chrome with a vinegar-soaked rag until the two stepped wings caught the sun over the yard in Barstow.

The cab smelled of hot vinyl and the peppermints he kept in the glovebox for emergencies. Under the dash, where a mechanic had once scrawled a phone number in carpenter's pencil, she found a second line in his looping hand: Keep her cool and she'll keep you. Ada laughed out loud, alone in the storm, and the sound went nowhere. The radiator hose had split clean through. She had a roll of electrical tape, a bottle of water, and a spare belt wrapped in newspaper from 1994, which felt about right for a family that never threw anything away.
By the time the wind dropped she had the hose bound up and the engine turning over on the third try. Somewhere behind the haze a petrol station sign blinked its one tired word. She eased the truck back onto the tarmac, headlights cutting two yellow tunnels through the dust, and the badge on the grille caught the last of the light and held it, bright as the Sunday he polished it.
She did not check the mirror. The road ran straight to the horizon, and she followed it.
