Circular script design and quote on upper back
Fine line · Back · Black and grey · Photo
A person is photographed from behind, showing a single black tattoo centred on the upper back. The tattoo is a thin-lined circular design made of interlocking arcs, circles and straight lines, with the words Hello, Sweetie in small lettering beneath it. The linework is clean and even, with no shading, and the plain light background keeps the focus on the ink.

Every ring has a small dot sat on its rim, and you said the dots were doors. I've got eleven right. The twelfth keeps coming out like a bicycle wheel.

Mr Dobbs from the lamp room saw the sheet and asked if it was a plan of the seam. I said it was a clock with the works showing. He laughed and said that was about right for a girl who'd been to the grammar school. I didn't tell him that you drew it on the inside of a cigarette packet the night before you went south, or that you said the lines between the rings were corridors and anyone could walk them if they didn't mind getting lost.
Last night the street lamps dipped twice and the whole row went dark, and I sat with the pencil and thought of you on that train, watching the fields go past. I started at the top of the largest circle and went round the way you showed me, one small word at a time, until the last curl closed. Then I read it back, and it was the sentence you always said at the door when you came in late and I was pretending to be asleep.
Hello, Sweetie. Don't come home, not yet. Just write and tell me which door you took.
