Deathly Hallows symbol with leaf wreath on ribs

Fine line · Ribs · Mixed · Photo

A small fine line tattoo of a triangle enclosing a circle with a vertical line, set between two curved wreaths of green leaves with a small orange flower at upper left and a purple flower at lower right. The black linework is delicate and the leaves and flowers are filled in with soft colour, while the main symbol stays in black. The tattoo sits centrally on the side of the torso, with a grey top and a hand with rings visible at the left edge of the frame.

Dear Nell,

The truck made it as far as Sayer's Wells before the radiator gave up, so I'm writing this on the back of the parts invoice while Dale hunts for a hose in the tin shed behind the petrol pumps. You'll want to know about Dad's things. I've got them all in the glovebox, wrapped in his old chequered shirt, and I've counted them twice to be sure.

There's the stone first, the flat grey one with the hole worn right through the middle, that he carried from the Pecos crossing. Then the brass ring from the bottle of tequila he never opened. And the little silver mirror you used to hold up to the sun to throw light across the ceiling. Three things, the way he always liked things. He used to say three was the number a road could hold without falling over.

I went to the cemetery at Lund this morning before the heat came up. The wild verbena was out along the fence, purple as bruises, and the globe mallow had turned the ditch orange. I stood there longer than I meant to. I thought about how he'd laugh at us fussing over a wreath of weeds.

Dale's back with the hose. I'll post the mirror on from Barstow, and you can decide what to do with the ring. Keep the stone for yourself. Come out in the spring if you can, and we'll drive it together, all three of us in the cab.

Love, Jo
