Coca-Cola and Jack Daniel's bottles on forearms
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two forearms are tattooed with realistic drink scenes. The left arm shows a Coca-Cola bottle with a lime wedge and swirling liquid, and the right arm shows a Jack Daniel's bottle beside a glass of ice. The shading is smooth and detailed, with strong highlights on the glass and bottles against soft grey smoke and dark background.

Dear Marnie, Got your postcard. The diner is still standing, though Uncle Ray swears the sign flickered like it was thinking about leaving. It's hot as a skillet out here. The power cut at six, so I've been running the fridge off a generator that coughs like an old man.

Last night a stranger pulled in with a dog and a flat tyre and asked for something cold. I had one green-glass bottle of fizz left in the back, the one Mum hid behind the flour. I cut a lime with Dad's knife, wedged it in the neck, and watched the bubbles climb. He tipped his hat and said it tasted like a town he used to live in.
Then the smoke came up from the brush fire over the ridge, grey and rolling like a sheet being shaken out. I poured two glasses from the square-shouldered bottle with the black label, and we sat on the step while the ice clinked and thinned at the edges. Neither of us said much. He left at dawn, paid in a folded note and a handful of pennies, and left the lime rind on the step.
I found it this morning, dried and curled like a little yellow moon. I've pinned it above the till. Come home when the road opens, and bring the good glass. Love, Jo.
